Hourly Freelance Rates

headshot

I am available as a freelancer for hire. Whether you need my help two hours a week, or twenty hours a month, I can work with you to develop a freelance assistance plan that works within your budget.

I can write weekly blog posts, create daily posts to your Facebook and Twitter pages, interact with your fans, create an article marketing campaign, put together moving slideshows, or assist you with other aspects of your social media presence.

And regardless of the amount of hours you purchase, I always strive to bring the best I have to the table and look forward to honest, constructive critiques that help improve the final output... all I ask is that you don't be mean about it.

For most freelance jobs, I charge by the hour; however, I also have package rates for freelance writing assignments that don't require a lot of research or in-person interviewing.

Freelancer For Hire - Virtual Assistance

I prefer to work during normal business hours; however, if you need me to work during off times, my hourly rates are listed below:

My hourly freelance rates are:

Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Freelance Writer For Hire - Packaged Ghostwriter Fees

All of my packaged freelance writing fees are based on a per project basis: one web page is one project, one blog post is one project, one article is one project, one press release is one project, one tip sheet is one project, one report is one project, etc. However, social media posts to Facebook and Twitter do not fall under this listing... those are billed at an hourly rate.

My fees for original ghostwritten articles, with or without a byline, are:

The rate quotes shown above are good provided the entire project can be done without any added expenses on my part.

2 free edits are included in rate quotes above. Additional edits or an extensive rewrite will require an additional fee at my hourly rate.

Additional fees will be discussed and agreed upon BEFORE they are incurred.

If you need work on a topic that requires extensive research and/or interviews with experts, the above fees do NOT apply. We'll negotiate a project fee based upon estimated time, complexity, and expenses directly related to your project.

As an example, a 500 word post that requires extra research (more time but no added expenses) can start at $175 and go up depending on complexity of the subject matter.

Freelance Editor For Hire

Need a second pair of eyes for your non-fiction piece, how-to tutorial, or personal essay?

I can read over your article, or blog post, and get the edited copy back to you within three days.

I'll help make sure your content flows from beginning to end by:

I'll check for spelling, grammar, and punctuation issues. And if you don't mind, I may even improve the tone of the article. For example, if it comes across too harsh, I can soften it up. And if it comes across too dry, I can throw in a little personality by giving it a conversational tone.

If your piece is missing chunks of information, I'll give you some ideas to help complete the piece. Then once you write up that information, I'll give the piece one last edit.

Finally, if you tell me your content is for a blog post, I'll make sure that it's scannable by adding sub-headings and breaking up larger paragraphs into smaller, more digestible ones.

My per project rates for editing existing material are:

2 free edits are included in rate quotes above. Additional edits or an extensive rewrite will require an additional fee at my hourly rate.

Additional fees will be discussed and agreed upon BEFORE they are incurred.

FAQS About Working With Me

Are We The Right Match?

I cannot promise we'll be the right match, but I am willing to work with you to find out.

When it comes to working with you, I must have a basic idea of what you want to do my job effectively and the only way that will happen is if you can articulate your thoughts to me in a way I understand... so we may have to go back and forth a couple of times while you explain what you want, and I try to grasp what you want.

I will also need you to provide me with supporting material (i.e. background research, photographs, logos, etc.).

Freelance Writer FAQS Concerning Pre-packaged Ghostwriter Fees

What Do You Need For A Ghostwritten Project?

The information needed for ghostwritten projects comes from several sources:

What Are Ghostwriting Rights?

Hiring me as a ghostwriter means that you are paying for "full rights" or "all rights" to the articles I write for you.

Purchasing "all rights" to an article means that the same article cannot be sold to another client. It entitles you to ownership of the article, which means you can claim authorship of the article.

You also own current and future publishing rights and do not have to compensate me to publish the content in more than one place.

You have not, however, purchased the rights to the subject or the research materials; which means I can write on this topic for other paying clients.

These are not "private label rights" in which I write a generalized article that gets distributed to several people and can later be tweaked or used as-is with your byline. The articles I write for you are original and written to your specifications and requirements.

Why Do Your Freelance Writing Rates Go Up With Word Count?

It has been my experience that the higher the word count, the more work is involved to provide quality content.

To interview and/or research, write, edit, tweak, and revise a 1,500 word article, for instance, can take up to 6 hours to complete, depending on the subject matter. More complex articles can take much longer to write and complete.

Do You Work On Collaborations?

Yes. I'd be happy to take your notes or first drafts and rework them.

My clients have been known to write a rough draft of what they want, then ask me to fill in the missing pieces, to beef up the content, to restructure it, to make it read more smoothly, and of course, to clean up grammar, typos, and spelling mistakes.

Do You Offer Edits?

Yes. I offer two edits with each project.

I understand that changes may be necessary to meet your needs and that tweaking the first draft is often inevitable; therefore, I will provide two free edits per project. Additional edits are available for an additional fee.

Requests for edits must be made within 7 days of receipt of your first draft, and within 7 days of receipt of your second draft. If you do not request an edit within this time frame, it will be assumed that you are happy with my work and no further edits will be made.

Do You Allow Rewrites?

Yes, within reason.

You see, I realize that there is a learning curve when working with new clients. If I don't meet your expectations on the first draft, I'll take your concerns to heart, then together we will work on a winning piece.

I also understand that there are times when nothing is wrong with the piece, but upon seeing the first draft, you realize that another direction is necessary or that a much longer piece, with more depth, is required.

Therefore, I will gladly do one rewrite, per project, at no charge, provided there isn't a change in word count and that at least half of the content in the original draft can be used in the rewrite.

If, for example, you hire me to write an article between 401 and 550 words, but upon the rewrite request to lengthen the article to 750 words, you'll be required to pay the difference.

Requests for rewrites must be made within 7 days of receipt of your first draft. If you do not request a rewrite within this time frame, it will be assumed that you are happy with my work and no rewrites will be made.

When Does It Become A New Fee?

If we must start from scratch, it is no longer a rewrite or an edit. If more than 50% of the text must be re-written, it is no longer a rewrite or an edit. This option will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

What Would Constitute Added Expenses?

Additional fees may apply to the ghostwriter fees if the work you require to be done incurs extra expenses. For example:

Miscellaneous FAQS

Do You Offer Corresponding Photographs?

Yes. Photographs can be included with each project for an additional fee, but please note that I am not a professional photographer.

Do You Work Within The Rate Guidelines For Publishers?

Yes. As a freelance writer, I understand that each publication has its own pay scale and policy regarding the rights of articles. That's why my fees for original and reprint articles are based on YOUR publication's going freelance writer rates.

I do, however, believe that the rights to the articles I write for your publication should coincide with the payment you provide.

Are There Ever Jobs You Will Not Take?

Yes, I will not work on, promote, nor encourage the following: adult, alcohol, drugs, gambling, nudity, occult, profanity, sexual products, violence, weapons, or religious material that is against my religious beliefs. And I do not write sales copy. It takes a very special skill to write advertising copy and I am not trained in that area.
